This season for RVC’s men’s basketball team will be a big one. They kicked off the season on November 21st in the Southern classic losing their first three games, but came back and started winning games. 

It is now January 26th and the Golden Eagles are 15-10 overall. They are 9-2 at home, 4-6 on the road and they are 6-3 in the conference. 

Men’s Basketball Head Coach, Tyler Bredehoeft, had this to say when approached about the season so far,

VF: What are the goals for this season?

Bredehoeft: To try and get better and also win the region tournament.

VF: What do you think the team needs to improve on?

Bredehoeft: We need to improve on defense and individual defense.

VF: Who are your team captains?

Bredehoeft: Brayden Hennis and Charles Burnell.

The coaching staff is formed of four coaches: Head Coach Tyler Bredehoeft, Assistant Coach Forrest Hicks, Assistant Coach Ben Kluzak, and Head Athletic Trainer Kristine Kearns.

The team has 14 players on the roster starting off with their captains, Hennis and Burnell. The squad is also formed off Keyvondre Cummings, Justin Robinson, Darius Banks, Jahsan Upshaw, Ja’Quan Chestnut, Nick Phillips, Nick Pierson, Michael Mcdermott, Riley Adams, Lozano Lovett, Malik Marshall,Treye Tucker.

When approaching Phillips, Adams, and Hennis about the season so far, they had this to say,

VF: How do you think the team is doing so far?

Phillips: “We started off slow but we’ve really turned around and we are starting to see success.” Adams: “We are doing good but we have a lot of room for improvement.” Hennis: “The team is doing good this year we had a slow start but now we are on a three-game winning streak.”

VF: What are you doing to get better for the team this season?

Phillips: “I am coming to practice every day on time and ready to work and I try to make my teammates better by going 100% and practice.” Hennis: “I am getting better everyday by shooting shots outside from practice.” Adams: “I am getting better by working my heart out on every drill I’m in.”

VF: What do you like about being on the team?

Phillips: “It feels like a family and I get to hang out with my brothers everyday.” Hennis: “I like the atmosphere in the games. I also like how we get to travel and compete every week.” Adams: “I like the way the team has bonded and all the amazing opportunities we get.”

From there I think the team has the potential and talent to go far this season.
