The RVC boys baseball team is projected to have an awesome season this year as they just got back Patrick O’Malley as their assistant coach this season. They just released their schedule for the 2020 season which starts on the road against John Wood Community College in Quincy, Illinois on Saturday, February 29th At 2 p.m.

When reached out, Assistant Athletic Director and Head Baseball Coach, Chad Herren, had this to say before the season starts.

What is the team’s goal for this year?

Herren: “Get to the National Tournament and Win It.”

What do you think your team can improve on?

Herren: “Stay focused until the weather changes and stay healthy and get better every day.”

What is your team motto?

Herren: “Embrace the storm.”

Who are your team captains?

Herren: “Brett Swalve, Zac Baden, and Zac Cummins.”

How many years have you been coaching the RVC team?

Herren: “4 years.”

I reached out to several players before the start of the season and their goals.

For how long have you been playing baseball for? 

Mitchell: “10 years.” 

Hissong: “Since I was 3 years old.”

Meile: “For 12 years or more.”

Truitt: “12 years.” 

Zalaback: “15 years.” 

What are you doing to improve yourself and for the team?

Trey Meile: “Working hard everyday making the most out of our indoor spaces and preparing for the season.”

Collin Truitt: “We are working hard every day, in practice and the weight room.  getting extra reps.” 

Will Hissong: “Working hard then ever pushing my teammates and trusting what we have.” 

Tim Zalaback: “We come in every day to focus on what we need to do.” 

David Mitchell: “Trying to improve on hitting and being a good teammate.”

What’s your favorite part about being on the team? 

Mitchell: “Just being around the team everyday and having fun.” 

Zalaback: “The talent plus the drive of everyone makes you want to get better.” 

Hissong: “The bond I have with my teammates for sure!” 

Meile: “The Brotherhood that is created while working towards a common goal.”

Truitt: “The boys on the team and the family.” 

What’s your goal for this year? 

They all have the same goal, win a championship.

The team has great talent and potential and I think the team will have a great season and hopefully make it to the National Tournament and win it.
